Hi,

you need to add this in the SMTP configuration in the web.config. Please take a look at this article and this one.

After completing the unzipping of both the current 3.5NET version of Monox I browsed to www.handdance.info/social and got the following error.Configuration Error Description:
An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to
service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify
your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: This
configuration section cannot be used at this path. This happens when the site
administrator has locked access to this section using <location
allowOverride="false"> from an inherited configuration file.

Source
Error:

Line 358: </connectionStrings>
Line 359: <system.web>
Line 360: <securityPolicy>
Line 361: <trustLevel name="MediumMonoX" policyFile="web_mediumtrust.monox.config" />
Line 362: </securityPolicy>

After checking permissions on all directories I installed the patch which is in the download section as well and received the same error. Obviously I change the error redirect to get this detail. Which is interesting as it did not redirect to the custom error page which I checked for and was able to find.

Hi,

can you please check the following:

If this isn't a shared hosting environment please check this:
1. Did you create a Virtual directory and if it is marked as an application (If not you can't run the MonoX application)
2. Do you have an ASP.NET application running in the IIS root (Default / Localhost) directory ? (Then you need to run your or MonoX application in a separate Web site - we will provide you with Url tp the IIS 5.1 hack to do so)
3. Did you properly install .NET 4.0 ? Do you see it under the application settings ?

If this is a shared hosting environment please check this:
1. Check if you selected every option that is needed to run ASP.NET on the shared hosting environment (Check the hosting provider documentation)
2. Check if this Url may help you - MS Support
3. Please contact your shared hosting provider and see if this is a trust level issue

It is probably a configuration problem on your machine - see this article for more details.

Denis,

That looks like the problem although the IIS is 6.0 it would appear that the host has blocked that avenue. I will talk to them but don't hold out a lot of hope.

Thanks for your and Khorvat's help.

Hi Gary,
You can try to remove the <securityPolicy> section, but I am quite sure that it will not be enough if you are dealing with an overzelaous admin - they tend to kill all of the advanced .NET features to protect from non-existing threats. More details on such issues can be found in one of my earlier blog posts, along with links to the hosting providers that provide a normal ASP.NET hosting environment.

Hi Denis,

I tried to install Monox on Arvixe one of the hosting site which you had success with and I still have a problem. When I attempt to open the site I get a 500 error with no details. The log shows:

Did you have to do anything to make it work?

I am going to contact Arvixe Support as well but I was wondering if you had any suggestions.

Is this Arvixe's installation (they are pulling it from Microsoft Web Gallery, and it appears that their integration sometimes produces strange results), or a package downloaded from our site? Does this error occurs when you try to install MonoX (first time that you access it), or after it is installed? Do you see anything in MonoX logs (MonoX/ApplicationData/Logs)?

This was a package downloaded from your site. The error happens when I access the site to start the install process. The Monox logs are empty.

Hi Gary,
This means that the request did not even reach MonoX, which in turn signalizes that something is wrong with the IIS or the application pool setup. The support staff at Arvixe will have access to the event logs to see the exact error. We will be glad to jump in if they need our help.
